PRESS RELEASE
Date: February 2004

Chip Size, 10 GHz Bandwidth Sockets for 0.5mm and 0.65mm
Pitch BGA’s from Analog Devices and Siliconware

Users can socket any 7 or 9mm body size BGA/CSP with 0.5 and 0.65 mm pitch without performance loss.

EAGAN, MN. – February, 2004 – Ironwood Electronics’ new high performance Socket – SG-BGA-7023 and SG-BGA-7025 allow IC’s such as Analog Devices AD6535 and Siliconware 80LD to be used in socket and operate without compromising performance in very high speed computing and communication applications. The new 10 GHz bandwidth sockets easily support very dense BGA devices utilizing a high performance conductive elastomer contactor. The contact resistance is normally 10 milliohms. The sockets have a precision design, which guides the IC to the exact position for connection of each ball and uses an aluminum heat sink screw to provide compressive force. The sockets accommodates IC packages such as Analog Devices AD6535 9 mm BGA, 0.5 mm pitch, and 16X16 arrays with up to 256 balls and Siliconware 7 mm 80LD with 0.65mm pitch and 9X9 array with 81 balls.

These patented ZIF sockets are simply mechanically mounted to the target PCB. The sockets are 7.5 mm high and only 2.5 mm per side larger than the actual IC packages, minimizing footprint on system boards while maximizing system speeds. The SG-BGA-7023 can provide socketing for any 7mm body size BGA IC with 0.5 or 0.65mm pitch. The SG-BGA-7025 provides socketing for any 9mm body size BGA with the same pitches.
