System Engineers incorporating Motorola’s fastest PowerPC microprocessor in their designs can now use high-speed logic analyzers in place to test and debug systems without impacting signal integrity or consuming extra board real estate.

EAGAN, MN. - July 25, 2001 – Ironwood Electronics’ latest high performance adapter connects Motorola’s 733MHz PowerPC chip to the Tektronix TLA-700 series of analyzers, greatly simplifying system timing tests and state analysis. The adapter provides the signal integrity required to achieve supercomputer levels of performance, yet supports simple swapping of IC devices. The new adapter employs a surface mount base that is easily soldered in place and requires only the board real estate used by the actual MPC7450 chip.

Ironwood’s LA-BGA-7450-S-B-01 logic analyzer adapter consists of three parts, which are sold as a package and also available separately. First, a surface mount base, SF-BGA483A-B-02, is soldered to the target system board in place of the 29x29mm, 1.27mm BGA device using standard BGA soldering methods. The PB-BGA-7450-01 probe board plugs into the SMT base and employs a controlled impedance PCB and signal isolation resistors to deliver all 296 data, address, control, and clock signals to Tektronix specific Mictor connectors. The MPC7450 chip is soldered to a separate chip carrier, LS-BGA483A-11, that plugs into the probe board. A custom version of the adapter features a provision for connecting to an external power supply, for use with additional adapters that selectively disconnect power planes from the target board.
