BGA SMT Emulation Adapter Set Allows Low Insertion Force, Reliable Socketing of ICs with 2K I/Os

Users Can Reuse their BGA1936 ICs with Easy to Use BGA Adapter Set the matches PCB CTE

BURNSVILLE, MN - April, 2005 - Ironwood Electronics is introducing SF-BGA1936A-B-42 and LS-BGA1936A-41 (high pin count BGA SMT adapter set), a low cost and reliable socket for 1936 pin BGA ICs. The adapter pair consists of SF-BGA1936A-B-42, patent pending female sockets with machined pins epoxy over molded into an assembly that matches the male pin LS-BGA1936A-41. The epoxy over molded SF-BGA1936A-B-42 is soldered to a PCB using standard soldering methods without warping. Both adapters are constructed with an FR-4 body assuring match with target PCB's and preventing failures that occur with CTE mismatch. The LS-BGA1936A-41 BGA adapter, to which the user attaches a target 1936 BGA chip, is plugged into the female socket on the board, thereby chip is interconnected and the system is ready to go. The SMT adapters have the same solder ball types as the IC they are emulating. The Giga-snaP™ BGA Surface Mount Feet Adapters require half the force of conventional adapters at 95 pounds for the 1936 pin device. The force to mate conventional BGA SMT adapters can exceed 200 pounds for a 1936 pin device. The electrical path of the Giga-snaP™ BGA SMT adapters is a high priority performance issue with the physical length from the top connection point on the male adapter to the solder ball on the female socket is 4.5 mm. This is the shortest connection length by far and therefore providing better transmission of high frequency signals.
